At Smileland Dental, we are committed to providing the  very best in dental expertise to help improve the lives of children.  Our team of doctors come form the finest dental schools, have received numerous awards, and are committed to continual education and learning.  We participate in dental workshops, attend dental lectures, meetings, and dental conventions to stay informed of new techniques, the latest products, and the newest equipment that a modern dental office can utilize to provide state-of-the art dental care. Also, being members of various professional dental associations helps us to stay abreast of the changes and recommendations for our profession. 

 

Dr. Sae Kyu Oh, DMD, graduated from Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1996. After his graduation, he moved to the Bakersfield area, where his devotion for making quality dental care accessible to children and to their families continues to have a lasting, positive impact on the residents of Kern County. Dr. Oh was one of the first dentist to provide oral conscious sedation in Bakersfield, and has been ensuring children have a comfortable, safe, relaxing, and positive dental experience.  With the vision of providing the best dental care accessible to the underserved, he took his learned expertise and started Comfort Dental Kids and Smileland Dental in 2000. His vision continues to grow to 7 practices currently and more practices to open in the future. He now shares his expertise and passion with an exceptional group of professionals who are committed to help improve the quality of life for children. When not leading his team of professionals towards patient care excellence, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, sight seeing, and traveling.

 Dr. Anthony Gary Viola, DDS, B.D.S, graduated from University of California San Francisco in 1975, completed his internship at UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital in Oral Surgery in 1976, and completed his orthodontic training at UCSF in 1978.  He is a member of the California Dental Association, American Dental Association, SCCDA, and National Dental Honor Society Fraternity where he received awards. Dr. Viola offers vast experience and expertise in improving the transforming the smiles of children, young and old. What he enjoys most about orthodontics is seeing each child's smile for the very first time when they take off their braces-- seeing the transformation from  a badly misaligned teeth to a beautifully aligned smile. When not seeing improving the smiles and lives of children, he enjoys science, history, woodworking, hunting, fishing, cooking, landscaping and construction.    

 

 Dr. Peter Kim, DMD, graduated from Temple University, Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2005. He is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Assoication (CDA), the Kern County Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Besides his passion for dentistry, Dr. Kim enjoys sports, science fiction novels, cars, and home maintenance. Dr. Kim enjoys the whole journey of meeting patients for the first time and working together towards a comfortable, restored and healthy smile. His easy going, gentle and friendly demeanor makes him an exceptional provider as well as an effective managing dentist. Growing up, he had two professional goals, to be a secret agent or become a dentist. Lucky for all of us he chose to be a dentist.


Dr. Matt (Phouc) Trinh, DMD, graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2006.  He has been an active member of the CDA, ADA, and Kern County Dental Society.  He enjoys going to the gym, playing basketball, spending time with family, and trying different ethnic food.  His interest in dentistry solidified after going to the dentist for braces for 4 years.  He finds deep satisfaction in completely restoring a child's teeth back to health and seeing the excitement of parents.

 

Dr. Chiping Liu, DMD, graduated from Taipei Medical University in 1983.  She enjoys reading and listening to classical music.  She is especially a gentle and compassionate dentist who loves pediatric dentistry.  She treats every patient as her own child and with her whole heart.  Her great joy and satisfaction is when seeing patients whom she treated come back for their recall and find them practicing good oral hygiene with no cavities and no complaints.  


Dr. Lynn Hua, DDS, graduated from the University of California, San Francisco Dental School. She is a member of the Orange County Dental Society. On her spare time she volunteers as a dentist with community clinics and enjoys cooking and traveling. She became a dentist because it's exciting and ever changing, and because she wanted to make a difference in improving the quality of life for people by educating them about the importance of oral health. She enjoys dentistry because it provides an opportunity to work with kids and help them improve their health and life.

 

Dr. Soojin Oh (Dr. Kate), DDS, received her training from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.  She serves in her church and has taken part in numerous dental mission trips abroad. Her hobbies includes writing, cooking, reading, rock climbing, and inline-skating. She chose dentistry because she strongly believes that improving smiles and oral health of children improves their lives. Each day, she finds meeting, talking and treating patients exciting and fulfilling.  She is glad to share the blessings she has received with others by serving them in their dental needs.  She particularly enjoys pediatric dentistry because children are her passion.  Asked, "What do you love most about dentistry?", she replied: "Meeting and talking to patients are exciting to me each day.  This is because they have questions regarding teeth and I have answers.  They are ready to listen and I am ready to care and serve them as a dentist.  I think I am an over-blessed person and want to share my blessing with my patients.  I pray every day to let every patient I meet be blessed and happy." 

 

 Dr. Andrew Chen, DDS, trained in the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry.  He is a recipient of UCI Chancellor's Scholarship Award, member of UCI Campuswide Honors Program, UCI Excellence in Research Program and much more.  He interned at King/Drew Department of Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery in Los Angeles, CA as well as taking part in numerous mission trips.  He is a member of CDA, ADA, and Kern County Dental Society.  When not helping improve lives through dentistry, he enjoys playing basketball, sports, reading, and movies. He chose a career in dentistry because "he wanted to help people and contribute to making people's lives better." He finds dentistry exciting and enjoyable because he is "meeting and helping new people every day, interacting with children, and making a difference in people's lives." 


 Dr. Antonio Lao, DMD, received his training from the Ago Medical and Educational Center and Bicol Christian College of Medicine of the Philippines.  Before joining Smileland Dental, he worked in the naval medical Center in San Diego, CA.  He is a recipient of the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Outstanding Performance Award and Special Achievement Awards.  When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys hiking, sight seeing and playing chess.  He chose dentistry primarily through the influence of his mother who sowed the seed of a career in dentistry.  What he loves about dentistry is seeing the satisfaction of his patients when their oral health and smile are restored.
